Within 12 business days of receiving Ryan’s claim paperwork, he was receiving ongoing payments from NobleOak which will continue until he recovers from his operation and returns to work.

Leanne’s* Story

Leanne took out Income Protection Insurance with NobleOak in 2002. She suffered a prolapse of a disc in her back in March 2014, which meant she was unable to continue working as an aged care nurse. Within 10 business days of receiving her claim paperwork, Leanne’s claim was approved and she had received her first payment.

Natasha’s* Story

Natasha took out Income Protection Insurance with NobleOak in 2002. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in August 2012. Since then, NobleOak has continually paid Natasha a monthly benefit, which has helped with her family’s ongoing expenses. As her condition is incurable, it seems highly likely Natasha will continue to receive this monthly payment until she turns 65.

How does Income Protection insurance work?

NobleOak Income Protection Insurance, like most other policies, will pay you up to 75% of your before-tax income if you can’t work due to a serious illness or injury. These payments will continue for a set amount of time, or until you reach the age of 65, depending on the benefit period you choose.

Do I buy Income Protection insurance with Life insurance or as stand-alone cover?

NobleOak Income Protection Insurance is available both with Life insurance and as stand-alone cover.

Will my premiums be tax-deductible?

Income Protection insurance premiums are generally tax-deductible and should be claimed when you file your tax return.

Any income benefits received then become tax-assessable, just like your usual salary or income.

This is general advice only, for specific tax advice for your circumstances you should consult your tax adviser/a taxation specialist.

Do I need Income Protection insurance?

Income Protection insurance is needed more often than you might think. Some estimates are that you are up to 10 times more likely to become disabled than to die during the life of an insurance policy.

How can I reduce the cost of Income Protection insurance?

Here are a few options to consider:

  • Opt for the premium freeze benefit provided with NobleOak Income Protection insurance. This means that you can fix the cost of your cover at any time. Your future premiums will be fixed at the amount you were paying on the date of notification and each year your cover amount will be adjusted to the amount of cover that can be purchased for the frozen premium.
  • Consider reducing your monthly benefits if you feel you can live comfortably on a lesser amount.
  • Opt for a shorter benefit period. At NobleOak, we offer a benefit period of either 2 years or until the age of 65; the longer the benefit period, the more expensive the premium.
  • Select a longer waiting period. We offer waiting periods of either 30 or 90 days; the shorter the waiting period the higher the premium.
  • Speak to your financial adviser/accountant as the premiums for Income Protection are generally tax deductable.

Will I need to do a medical test?

Generally, there are no mandatory medical requirements when applying for NobleOak Life insurance. However, this is dependent on your age, the sum insured that you are applying for and also your medical history. If medical details are required these are all organised and paid for by NobleOak.

Am I coverd if I am overseas?

NobleOak offers worldwide coverage, however travel exclusions may apply based on your individual circumstances; this will be determined during the initial application process.

At what age can I apply for Income Protection insurance?

You can apply for Income Protection insurance from the age of 18 up to the age of 59. Please note that the expiry age for NobleOak Income Protection insurance is 65.
